The galleries on my website are organized by series name or by general “catch-all” categories such as Dittybops & One-Offs. Here is some background info on the different series:
Meditation Series: my artist statement about this series may be read here.
Song Series: These paintings grew out of two conversations with two different friends. The first was with a friend about his fear of death (which seemed out of character for him). The second conversation happened a long time ago, with a friend who had a fear of moving. He, like me, was a military brat and had relocated many times in his life but had never gotten over his fear of having to move someplace new.
The Song series is about journeys in life… the word “song” implying spirituality and/or joy in living. The fish symbolize souls (both fearful and unfearful)… and the various plant life, waterfalls, and rocky surfaces represent both the journey and the destination.
Volcano Fish Series: It takes a special kind of fish to swim through a volcano and survive. I began this series in 2005—as a testament to those who have overcome daunting obstacles and continue to thrive and flourish. I was thinking specifically of my mom when I first started the series, but they have since come to represent to me all who overcome adversity in their lives.
I’ve donated several in this series to the Works of Heart Art Auction Against AIDS—as a tribute to those living with HIV/AIDS.
Dittybops & One-Offs: Dittybops are works that simply are what they are. I did them for no reason other than I felt like it… and they aren’t part of any series. Some of them share some similarities—others are simply “one-offs.”
Celtic Springs Farm Series: Celtic Springs Farm is my father’s organic farm in Seven Valleys, PA (in the York/Lancaster area). I completed these paintings over the course of several months in 1999–2000.
The originals hang in my father’s dining room.
Watercolor Paintings: All of these works were completed in the 1990s. Some were displayed at various venues in the Raleigh/Durham area—including coffee shops and Barnes and Noble. Rumplestiltskin was part of the New Art in the Triangle show at the Duke Museum of Art.
Design Gallery: includes samples of my work as a Graphic Designer and Web Designer from the past 10 years or so.
